Lesson = Step 4: Compression
(This lesson should take 2-3 class days.)
USING Pro Tools software NOT using Pro Tools
Part 1 (first day)
+Download/print the Paper: Step #4- Compression. (above) +Video #1 - Watch "How to Mix from Scratch- Compression" Take notes on your Step #4- Compression paper. +Now give it a shot. FOLLOW THE STEPS ON THE PAPER! Work on Mix 2. Find areas that need compression- either by looking at the big changes in the waveform or when listening, the track is sometimes too loud or too soft. Start on your CORE instruments. Part 2 (second day) + If you didn't watch me "live" or if you need a review, go to the google drive and watch as I go explain and go through Step 4 Compression, with Q&A afterward. +Now continue to try compression. Listen back through Mix 2. Then work on Mix 4. JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS ON THE PAPER! Part 3 (third day) +Video #2 - Review by watching "Mix with Me- Compression" +Listen through the mixes to confirm you got it right or adjust. + When Complete, save as a .ptx file with "Comp" at the end of BOTH of the file names and email the .ptx only for both Mix 2 and Mix 4 to roberth@cos.edu.. |

(above) +Video #1 - Watch "How to Mix from Scratch- Compression" List all the key controls/knobs of a compressor, and what they do. +Video #2 - Watch "One Hour Mix Series- Compression" Explain the process of compression: from choosing a track, inserting a plugin, adjusting the parameters (and why you do it), and testing to see if it worked or not, and why/when to move on. You can use the Compression Paper above if you would like. Part 2 (second day) + If you didn't watch me "live" or if you need a review, go to the google drive and watch as I go explain and go through Step 4 Compression, with Q&A afterward. + Write a summary of what I did, how I did it, and any Q&A. Part 3 (third day) +Video #3 - Review by watching "Mix with Me- Compression" Compare and contrast this video and the previous two. What was different, what was the same. + Check back later for more. + When Complete, email me your writings to roberth@cos.edu.. Make sure they are clearly marked what video they are for. | ||||
